ARTWORK CONDITION STATEMENT

1. Introduction

Galerie Bonheur represents folk, outsider, and self-taught artists whose work often incorporates traditional, repurposed, or naturally available materials. These artworks possess distinct handmade qualities that reflect the artist’s process, environment, and cultural tradition.

2. Inherent Characteristics

• Handmade Variation: Irregular lines, uneven surfaces, textured brushwork, visible nails or joins, asymmetry, and other marks of the artist’s hand are normal features of folk art.

• Materials & Age: Patina, minor wear, roughness, or weathering may appear due to the materials used or the age of the piece. These characteristics are valued as part of the artwork’s authenticity.

3. What Is Not Considered Damage

The qualities listed above—including surface imperfections arising from the creative process—are not classified as defects or damage.

4. Transparency & Support

We photograph and describe artworks with care, but handmade qualities may not always translate fully through images. If you have questions about condition, we welcome you to request additional photos or clarification prior to purchase.

5. Shipping Damage

Damage caused during transit is handled separately under our Return Policy.
